This is the game engine I built for my current project which is an action platformer called Graizor. The engine supports animated tiles, animated sprites, 5 layers which can be split between tiled layers, static backgrounds, and scrolling backgrounds. The engine doesn't support isometric tiles, transparent tile layers, or auto-tiling. Note: Linux Users just open a terminal in the folder and run this command: rcbasic editor n00bEngine.zip (523.93 KB)

I reuploaded it with a batch file to launch it that fixes the dialogs not opening on Windows. I don't use Windows much so I just now caught it.

Thanks. I just realized how terrible the video quality is. I might try to reupload it or just upload it to my web space. You and johnno's conversation on his platformer actually inspired me to finally upload a video about it. It also gave me the kick I needed to get to work on my game which I haven't done much with for the past 2 months.

Well, sounds cheesy or not but your editor is inspiring me to get mine done.
The quality wasn't terrible I could easily see and read what you were doing.
Also it is nice seeing some life in the forums, I get excited when I see "NEW" in the forums lol.

How long did it take you to get the Editor to this level of completeness? Was it all "from scratch" or did you modify an existing editor?
No rush for the answers. Just curious.

Sorry, I had some old version uploaded. I reuploaded a more recent version with all the bug fixes I did on it this year. After you redownload it, open up editor.bas and compile it and run it. How long did it take you to get the Editor to this level of completeness? Was it all "from scratch" or did you modify an existing editor? No rush for the answers. Just curious. This took me about 2 months to finish the UI. Most of that time was making the GUI library. It is the same GUI library that I used to build the package tool as well as the android build tool. (Yes, both of those were also written in RCBasic). hey nOOB..that looking good, if is in form of .dll can be used with any language on Windows. Its not a dll. This is just a normal RCBasic program.

Error when I run it: couldn't find display mode match. It's ok, I will try to make an AAA game without this editor

dottygame That error is happening because your monitor probably has a lower resolution than the window for the editor. I think the resolution for the editor is 1280 x 800. I will try to add support for lower resolution displays in the future. To be honest, although I am proud of this editor, there are far better level editors available. I would suggest checking out Tiled. Its a popular editor and was the same level editor used in Shovel Knight. Here is a link to the Tiled website if you want to check it out: Tiled Website

Yep. Used Tiled in the past. A bit of learning to get through, but is quite easy to use, after that. I still don't know how to use the finished files. There are some 'basics' that I know, for example Naalaa, that can input, create/edit and use, 'tmx' files. I think, somewhere down the line, a tilemap library capable of reading TMX files, might be a good addition. Assuming, of course, there is sufficient need... lol
... oh. Tiled is totally free... Cool.
I have downloaded your video tut for your engine and will work my way through it... Sounds like fun to me! (my eldest grandson is SO into Mario at the moment... - Time to build a spritesheet...)
