I was asked to place to place this game here. It's not the original 8 bit. I have modified the game to use free kenney.org and opengameart.or sprites and free soundbible.com sound effects. I know, incredibly lazy, but if you saw my drawing skills you would understand... lol It's playable but may contain a bug or two... Pull it to bits if you like, but if you make it better, I would appreciate knowing what you did... lol Special thanks to tbird and kennn for their invaluable assistance and suggestions!! www.dropbox.com/s/uio0xzgil6vzee7/attack2revised.zip?dl=0Enjoy. J ps: Link updated with "Delta Time" addition.

Tbird,
Oh but I 'did' add it... But the same problem popped up. After an object was destroyed it reappeared painfully slow... and it was removed... *sigh*
n00b,
Thank you. Are all games 'this' challenging to make? lol

Tbird,
Just tried your version and it ran just fine. No 'go slows' whatsoever. Chances are I probably did not key in the changes correctly. Many thanks for the update... I will update the link...
n00b,
I am afraid that 'your' version of easy differs greatly from mine... lol But thanks just the same...
ps: Previous download link has been updated...

The game compo should be coming to a close soon, I am actually quite interested to see the entries, still not really my cup of tea, but it's fun anyways. Creativity in gameplay might be quite prevalent when the graphics side is set so low.
For example I think how you went for authenticity in your game was awesome, can't wait to see what other people came up with.

I have PM'ed the Administrator (qube) for instructions on how to present / package the game. The website described conditions etc but did not (as far as I could see) give instructions on how to send them the game. I have only messaged an hour or so back and will hopefully hear something tomorrow (18th). Competition closes on midnight of the 31st.
I made the mistake of looking at last year's finalists... *gulp* Just wanted to see what kind of chance I would have... I shouldn't have looked...

Hey johnno56, i have not recieved a pm from you but I can explain this real quick. I know you mainly run linux but if you want to package it for windows you will need to download the windows version. Inside the "dist" folder for there is a 32-bit and 64-bit distro. Just copy all the files in one of those folders into the directory where you have your *.cbc file. Rename rcbasic.exe to the name of you *.cbc file. You don't need to keep your source code in the directory if you don't want to distribute it. The *.cbc file is your actual program. On linux its mostly the same process. There are instructions in the dist folder for windows and linux. If you have trouble let me know.

Sorry. I should have said. "I PM'ed the administrator of of syntaxbomb.com". Tbird passed on the link for the competition and was persuaded to enter "Attack". I should have been more clear.
I will attempt to package as you have instructed and will keep you informed as how it works out.
Cheers
J

Ok. Downloaded the Windows version. I created 2 new folder2 (32 and 64) on my desktop and copied my ".cbc" file (and the assets folders) into each folder. Copied the appropriate runtime files into each folder. Renamed the "rcbasic.exe" file to "attack.exe" in each folder. I ran the executable's (most times a windows executable will run, not always to spec, but usually runs.) just to see if it worked. The 64 bit version executed and ran the game, but the sound wasn't quite right (sounded a bit 'white-noise-ish'), but it ran. Then the 32 bit version executed but did not run at all. These results are not unusual for me so I'm not overly concerned. I will compress both 32 and 64 bit versions and place links below. If you would be so kind as to test them for me? Just in case my results were of my own doing... lol www.dropbox.com/s/xriwtflvvtngp9o/attack32.zip?dl=0www.dropbox.com/s/uf2seuxn202yzln/attack64.zip?dl=0

Update:
I just tested the 64 bit version on my wife's 64 bit Win7 machine and it ran flawlessly. Yep. Even on Windows I get killed off *sigh*

There is a bug in your code that is causing the random crash on 32-bit and probably responsible for your sound issues in 64-bit. I looked at your code and you have an array called col[]. You defined it like this:
Dim col [26]
But you set indexes 0 to 26. In RCBasic Dim col[26] will give you 26 indexes starting at 0 so you only have 0 to 25 in the array you created and you are causing a memory leak trying to access index 26. If you fix that both the 32 and 64 bit versions should work as intended.
