Understood. I will correct and update asap. Thank you for finding a glitch... Hi..!!!! I read in SyntaxBomb forum several minutes ago. I discovered your post in the thread of the 8-bit war competition. I am very glad because your excellent entry should be nearly completed. Well done. syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5206.msg24029.html#msg24029 (add www.) However, your post shows that you cannot find any entry of this competition. I am surprised. There are at least 10 entries actually. Their discussions are in the worklog sub-forum. You will find many posts there. For example, (need to add www.) syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5226.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5211.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5207.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5214.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5259.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5210.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5216.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5224.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5248.0.html syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,5222.0.html Bye, bye.

I'm surprised too. The syntaxbomb website admin gave instructions to submit on the main page, following the directions of course, but was completely unaware that entries were in sub-forums... Now I know. Many thanks.
Some of the links were just discussions about their entries and some had some screen images of there proposed entry. Very nice looking games in there. But still could not see any 'actual' entries. I'm going to guess that the competitors are going to leave official entry to just before the cut-off time... because that is probably what I would have done as well... lol

Hello, ok, I see. So you will submit your nice entry on 30 Mar? That's great. Good luck, yes!!!
I read in SyntaxBomb forum today and I see your new posts. I really didn't know that you wanted to select other programming languages to develop computer games. You are an active and important person in RCBasic community. You released many games written in RCBasic. I believe that RCBasic community needs you. Oh...it is bad news for the RCBasic community.

I don't believe johnno56 is leaving, he is simply looking to expand his horizons. Gaining experience with other tools and languages is a must in my opinion.
For instance I learned how to setup a game loop and how everything interacts with GDevelop last year, it has many shortcomings but the experience gained was invaluable.
Learning something else should never be stifled. Well at least in my opinion.

Because I am looking around for other 'basic-like' languages does not mean that I am giving up on RCBasic.. RCBASIC and SDLBASIC are the easiest languages (for me anyway) to use... I have also read in other forums that one should stick with the language that one knows best. My primary language is SDLBasic (RCBasic is based on it). There are some things that n00b has included in RC that is better than SDL and some things in SDL that RC does not use. RC seems to run more efficiently.
My decision not to submit an entry was based purely on how good the other entries were in comparison to mine. I do not believe that my coding skill level is good enough to compete yet. I need a LOT more experience and a LOT more ideas... As long as I improve in those areas I will continue to make games... Competitions or not... After all, as long as we have fun in producing games and applications, there is no reason to stop... lol
It was not my intent to cause any disappointment or offence by not competing. My apologies if that is the case.

This is an interesting discussion. I personally think its a good idea to try out other languages, libraries, etc. RCBasic itself is written in C/C++ so I use that language quite a bit. I have also been involved in the sdlBasic community for a long time, and freeBasic going back to 2006. I have gotten criticism about RCBasic for decisions I made with RCBasic that many think make it inferior such as no PEEK, POKE, GOTO, etc. from traditional BASIC and no classes, linked list, etc. from more modern languages. The great thing is that there is a language that is suitable for every type of programmer.
And Johnno, I think you should give yourself more credit. You are a very competent programmer. We are all still learning.

Simple, fast, no oop junk. If there is a programming language for everyone, this one is for me.

"Simple, fast, no oop junk" are some pretty compelling pluses for RC. With me it'a a little different. The word I would use is 'comfortable'. I have a pair of shoes that are SO beaten up. The 'backs' are wrecked. The leather is awfully scuffed to the point that it's beginning to hole. The soles have almost worn through... Going shopping or driving in them, there is nothing, apart from bare feet, that I would prefer to wear. Much to my wife's disgust... lol. You know what I mean? RC is like that. No. Not like old worn out shoes, but comfortable, 'like' worn out shoes.
I'm probably babbling because I haven't had my coffee yet... Mmm... Coffee.
Many thanks to n00b. I don't normally read my name and the word 'competent' in the same sentence. In fact, I think you may be the first to do so. Thank you.
Nah. I'm out of here... The temptation for caffeine fix is too great.... Back in about an hour...

johnno56 your making me sad... my ol' lady just made stop wearing a pair of my favorite shoes lol. I still kept them, but they get used only for work now, so not a total loss.
