I have been grinding away on my game lately and I am hopefully going to have the first few levels available to share soon. In the meantime has anybody else been working on anything they want to share? It doesn't have to be anything RC or game related.

I've been doing a lot of drawing recently. I trained how to draw houses looking similar to the ones in zelda a link to the past and zelda links awakening , beside this I managed to code basic monster behaviour algorithms.
Have a privat project with a coworker, we are designing a photo calender for next year as christmas present for our relatives.

I have been waiting for Mr. Inspiration to come knocking on my door... The rate at which my hearing is failing, I have serious doubts that I will hear him, when and if he knocks again... lol
At times I would be either playing or watching a game and figured, "Maybe I could do a simpler version of that in RC..." Gather or create the assets; Fire up the coffee machine; Start coding... only to realize that, after an hour or so, I had already done that and it failed miserably... lol
Consumed the coffee and returned to listening out for a door knock...
Einstein once quoted, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
Maybe the next door knock will be the men in white coats carrying a jacket with very long sleeves that tie up at the back... Perhaps I should install a "peep hole" in the door?... lol

eyfenna I have played a lot of 16-bit rpg/adventure games. It's the reason I still have my SNES and Sega Genesis. I actually have all the new many systems too. I hope you continue with it. johnno56 Your enthusiasm always astounds me. You seem to be a little more hyped than usual. This is the first time in a while that you didn't end your post saying you needed more coffee. From the sounds of it, you had your cup before you posted.

You are SO correct... At the time of posting, I had just returned from my morning venture to McDonalds, for my morning caffeine infusion...
'Your' interpretation of 'enthusiasm' seem to be a little different to mine... But that's ok... I will put it down to cultural differences.. lol After all, if we Australians were any more 'laid back', we would slip into a coma... lol Enthusiasm... hmm...
Any way... To get the 'juices flowing', the one thing I find lacking in most 'basic' type sites, are an absence of step-by-step tutorials on how to code various types of genre's... (not ignoring your 'introduction to programming' by the way) It may be me, but I have noticed a 'trend' in different forum members across different sites, and their unspoken assumption that everyone who joins a forum 'must' have at least some understanding of the language to the point that their examples have very little comment or documentation in regards to 'how' everything works...
I can understand the reasoning but it doesn't help the newbie's, and quite frankly, I would imagine that newbie's would find that a 'turn-off' and either give up or look elsewhere...
I have seen sites that have areas in their forums for tutorials or samples or the such, and that's great because all programmers have to start somewhere, but step-by-step is almost non existent. Youtube has heaps, some better than others, but still quite plentiful. I'm not saying that 'basic' sites be now crammed with copious videos, after all budgets must be kept, but links to videos; text or pdf 'how to's' would be a good start. I realise that all this requires a LOT of background work, but if we want people to get back into basic, there has to be a helpful infrastructure to both attract and keep them interested in coding.
Kids these days are going for 'point and click' type IDE's to produce games quickly. The current generation is more interested in "I want it now" and will do as little as they can to get it... Take away the fancy IDE, put them in front of a "text editor" and tell them they have to code the game from scratch, then sit back and watch the laughing fit that follows...
I am not saying that 'point and click' does not produce good games, I'm just say that coding a good game will give them a better understanding as to "how and why" it is a good game, and to do that they will need resources.
Oh dear... I fear the coffee was a bit stronger than usual... as is evident by my endless ramblings...
Just a few thoughts... I apologise if any 'cans of worms' were opened. "I" struggle for ideas, and if I do, then I have to assume that I am not the only one... lol
What can we do to get people interested in coding? Ah, the $64,000 question... Well, maybe not 'that' much, but you get the point, right? lol

Johnno same feeling here concerning tutorials.

Hmm... I would be curious to know what kind of tutorial(s) would be good to start with? If we do, them I would suggest, we relocate these discussions to the "tutorial" part of our forum... Maybe simple keyboard character movement... or perhaps move up to simple games... eg: Oh. The old favourite... Pong... Could be fun...

In response to the original question, I have been trying to get crop off the field, working on our bathroom vanity a 24" Wide X 72" long piece of pine I planed down. I will post pictures sometime to show it off, I think it looks good. I managed to get almost 1/2 hour in programming yesterday, opened up my A* pathfinding demo and it was so greek to me after a couple weeks, I quickly closed it lol. I opened up the framework and started adding multiple collision box/poly/circle per entity (4 max) to add more realism, multiple hit boxes! The to-do list is growing 2X faster then the to-done list . As far as the tutorials I think it's a great idea, eyfenna seems to have a knack for it *hint* *hint* lol, joking aside a community effort would be awesome, I still can't be of much/any help for awhile but I will try and log on more often to see what's up, but I doubt I will have much to add.

I can still remember the amount of time my dad had to put into dairy farming and can imagine the work load that you must have. Although both farms are different, they both have the same high price to pay, time... Whatever amount of time, you can spend at the keyboard, will be appreciated...

I've seen Youtube clips on people who produce their own lumber from trees and I was greatly impressed. Mainly because I can't... lol That's a LOT of hard work done there... Well done. Of course, now that you have shown the 'early' photos, you are 'almost' obligated to show us the absolute final images... No pressure... lol
I am curious... Do you have assistance or are you doing all this work by yourself?

Yup also interested in the final photos.
I did draw a big cat mob sprite, and testing this sprite noticed some erronomous behaviour in my mob algorithms.

The Pine tree I cut down, I had to take it to someone with a band saw to cut even slices. Then they were dry piled in a shed, except the piece my wife wanted for the vanity I took that home to cure and condition. After it was done it's warping, twisting, and drying I cut it to length, squared off one edge, and started hand planing away. I have done lots of small finishing but after a piece this large I am making a router planing sled, would make my life so much easier, so many hours in that vanity top planing and sanding away lol. Truth be told even though I have built my own house, it was never only me. It is like my framework, the tutorials I have read, questions asked, and inspiration from fellow programmers...you guys!! So it's never really a one man go, not to me anyway. I will for sure post the finished vanity top, I hope to be putting on the Danish Oil tonight or tomorrow night. eyfenna I would like to see said sprite
