First, I want to say "Long time no see". Second, I have been busy for several months. Why I write this post if I am still busy now? It is because I saw a forum(belongs to Freeforums.net) recently. The forum is with a very nice dark theme: lormahordes.freeforums.net/I have two suggestions: 1. Many professional programmers need to use their IDEs to write programs for a long time each day. Their eyes will be quite tired after several hours of using their IDEs if their IDEs are with white backgrounds. Thus many of these professional programmers prefer dark background colours in their IDEs. Therefore, if a forum is with a dark theme, it can also make good first impressions on many new visitors(many professional programmers). I suggest that current theme of this forum is replaced by the dark theme used at lormahordes.freeforums.net. This may be a small change but this small change can make a lot of professional programmers love RCBasic more. 2. The tab for lormahordes.freeforums.net in the browser has their official skeleton logo. However, now the tab for rcbasic.freeforums.net in the browser does not use the official mascot logo of RCBasic. I suggest that the official mascot logo of RCBasic is used on the tab for rcbasic.freeforums.net in the browser. Thanks a lot! RCBasic will be more popular, sure!!!!!!!!!

Are there any studies confirming that the black background is less painful for your eyesight?

kennn1. On the first request, I really don't like that theme that you shared. I have thought about changing the theme before but no matter what colors I chose I just never liked looking at it so I always changed it back to this. But I might try some more themes out and let the community vote on it. The important thing for a forum like this is that it needs to be easy to read not just text but also code. 2. Sure we can add the logo. I think that is a great idea.

rosy, A long article talks about theme. medium.com/@tigranbs/why-developers-prefer-dark-coding-themes-a00cbf9d8900"Some Research Information It is counted that over 70% of software engineers coding on a Dark Theme IDE’s, if you take a look on popular coding environment theme downloads you will find always that top 10 themes are dark." aurel,We should try to do everything to make RCBasic to attract every professional programmer to use and like. Otherwise, RCBasic will be dead(Just like many BASIC dialects for game development). It will be a huge disaster. n00b,2. Sure we can add the logo. I think that is a great idea. I mean the following icons. I think that there is an icon option in the forum setting. ibb.co/Gxk9jS7

I asked for research, not someone's scribble and funny pictures ...
Does anyone forbid anyone to write on a black background? I sincerely envy you that you have no major problems ...

Hi Rosy, This is something I found. It doesn't say the findings were from a study but explains why darker themes "may" be better for the eyesight. I hope this helps. www.maketecheasier.com/are-dark-themes-better-for-eyes-battery/J ps: I suppose any level of contrast, if continuously used for long enough, will end up being painful. I find darker themes to be "easier" on my old eyes during the evening. Lighter theme during the day. It would be nice if the RC website had a choice...

I completely agree for myself, all my ide enviroments have always been dark, white sucks lol...well in my opinion anyway. As for kennn earlier statement about attracting "professional" programmers....I believe that is a non-issue, first this is a BASIC, so that rules out 99.8% of professional programmers. As far as being more attractive, again completely subjective to the individual. The best way IMO to get a larger community is lots of well made projects made with the language, I consider it a "speaks for itself" kinda thing, and of course joining in a few contests and the posting on itch.io...etc... When someone browsing comes to look at the forum, a large game library of fun games would speak volumes compared to a few aesthetics, again in my opinion.

So from what Jonno gave it follows: 1. There is no research. As in the previous ... 2. They give advantages and disadvantages, and in general, black letters on a white background are better.
It seems to me that someone has started a rumor and, as usual, everyone is mindlessly following it.
And isn't it enough to change the browser theme?

I added some dark themes to the forum for everyone to vote on. Try them out and post which one you prefer.
You can access them by editing your profile and going to settings.
