I uploaded my new game with the first level to Github. It is a retro side scrolling space shooter in pixel graphics and 32 color palette.
More levels coming soon. But I realized, that level design takes much longer then the programming itself. I created two binaries for Linux and Windows. I couldn't test yet, if the windows binary is working. You will find the source code on Github, too.
The game (at least my brother was complaining) is quite hard. So no shame, if you start in the easiest difficulty level.

@j7m I really like your game. I am extremely impressed with the presentation overall. How long did it take you to make this?

ok i download zip and unpack it under rcbasic examples then load GalaxyRanger.bas into my editor click compile it as 32bit ...then click run and voila game started... wow..it is really cool I like it ... just a small suggestion... it is somehow hard to get it what is background rock from meteorite rock shade of grays also player ship is little bit slow and is hard to avoid all this enemy projectiles very very good !!!

Ah yes. Determining which rocks can be destroyed... Eventually I figured that one out... The background rocks did not explode when shot at and bumping into then "ground" away my shields... I just shot at the others... Just a slight colour difference would make it easier... but, does "easier", make the game a challenge? A slow moving player in a space shooter... It's almost criminal... lol... Do you really need a fast player when navigating all the rocks? The player would perform like a pinball... lol But, I agree with you, a very good game indeed... lol

One minor change needed for "galaxyranger.bas" (add line# 246)?: DrawImage(MENUE_IMAGE_ID_FONT_64x64 + asc("S"), PosX_Game+64*14 , PosY)

..for game should be better to remove this atifact rocks and leave only stars as background less distraction from moving meteors...

When the game ends it scrolls "CONGRATULATION" across the screen. Adding the "S" corrects a mis-spelling. The word should be 'congratulations'.
Now that you mention 'rocks'... One small point that I noticed whilst playing the game, the enemy ships can shoot 'through' the rocks, yet the player cannot... But, wouldn't removing the rocks, make the game too easy? Perhaps start with no rocks then as the level or levels progress add more hazards...

not rocks you must destroy than rocks which mooving in background they look anoying because destract you from enemy rocks do you get it now? by the way that "S" is not important at all for me .

I'm working since 1.5 years on the game. But there have been weeks, when I just spend 1 or 2 hours.
You have to find the bonuses dropped by the enemies (or the rocks in the beginning). Within the first 1min of the game you will find 2 ship speed-ups and 1 shoot speed-up. And more bonuses coming later. But already with this 2 ship speed-ups you are fast enough to survive the rocks. Therefore kill the right guys.
thank you. I will do.
I'll think about this. Before I started the game I decided to use a fixed 32 color palette throughout the whole game. When creating the background image, I realized, that I don't have enough shades of gray to have a nice contrast separation between foreground and background. I think my pixel art skill is not good enough. I'm still learning, and dithering to fake additional colors is not easy.
I did this intentionally. I remembered the games I played when I was a kid. In some of them it was like this. Maybe the level designers were lazy. When the enemy can shoot through the objects, setting up the paths for the enemies is easier. You don't have to think about the level design so much, since there are less constrains.

I really enjoyed your game. I think you should make an itch.io page for it.

I created a set of background images without the rocks. Just replace the original background images in DATA/LVL1/BG. I personally like more the look with the rocks. If there are more people against the rocks, I can replace the images at github. Attachments:BG_Images.zip (26.58 KB)
