I compiled rcbasicf_build and rcbasic with the -Ofast parameter instead of -O2. both are faster, here are the commands:
g++ -Ofast -s main.cpp -o rcbasicf_build
g++ main.cpp theoraplay.c -o rcbasicf -Ofast -s -lSDL2 -lSDL2_image -lSDL2_ttf -lSDL2_mixer -lSDL2_net -lSDL2_gfx -logg -lvorbis -lvorbisfile -ltheora -ltheoradec -pthread
I renamed both to rcbasicf_build and rcbasicf and added to geany to compare and estimate the speed gains.
I use -Ofast with freebasic as well. The programs are faster...
n00b. can you confirm !

This is going to be a really busy week for me so I won't have time to get to it until Friday or Saturday.

How do you compile for android? I did in this manual: wiki.libsdl.org/Androidby ./gradlew installDebug But nothing works on this android. It crashes the program to me, e.g. after calling surface->w ... can't read structure ...

I was able to run the latest SDL on my old phone. They say it works from API 16.
