Sounds interesting, but I am too young to have dealt with any of those. My first system was a Nintendo, and I was pretty young when it came out. I am not a huge fan of 8 bit, but I will see what gets made nonetheless, thank you for the heads up.

Therefore, gameplay becomes extremely important in this contest. An entry with amazing or outstanding gameplay will easily become the final champion. I don't have sufficient skills to finish a game. Perhaps there are several talented and experienced RCBasic users in the RCBasic community but I am not sure.

I had an Amstrad CPC464 in '85 until the monitor/power supply died in about '89. I now use a CPC emulator.
The contest sounds like fun, but unfortunately, my programming skills are FAR from good enough to enter. I would be keen to see the results.

but unfortunately, my programming skills are FAR from good enough to enter. Don't say that. You announced 4 games in the Projects sub-forum. In my opinion, you are very suitable to participate in this contest because you are full of experience. An high quality entry can show the capability of RCBasic and it can also show your good ability.

You are too kind... The contest is stressing 'original' work. The games you referred to have been around since Moses was a boy... lol 1. 1945 was a remake of a tutorial for Naalaa. 1945 as well as 1943 were also featured on the Amstrad and various machines of the era. 2. Lunar Lander is as old as dirt. This version I modified from a version I made using Scratch. This one is hardly original. This one was around even before computers used graphics... 3. Santa was also a remake of a Naalaa 'sample' program - it was simple and even looked like an 8 bit game... well kind of... 4. Ok. Hangman was mine - at least this version - It started out as a 'text only' and found / created / modified graphics and sound. I had to use a VERY limited dictionary because of the size of text used - I think maybe a maximum of 7 or 8 letters per word... It's still a work in progress... I also have a Star Trek game but have not yet been able to convert it to RCBasic... It's based on the original 'text only' 1978 version by David Ahl... but with graphics and sound... I do recall a Scratch game that I made for my grandkids a year or so back. It's not quite finished but it's playable. Typical space shooter type game. Get to 100 points before getting killed off. Graphics are free and open source. The concept and coding is mine... what there is of it... lol. You can try it 'online' if you like. But do not expect a 'work of art'... perhaps a 'paper and crayons'... lol scratch.mit.edu/projects/11762500/fullscreen/J

You are too kind... The contest is stressing 'original' work. The games you referred to have been around since Moses was a boy... lol Hello, You have experience in handling the development work of six nice computer games. This means that your technical skills in game development are quite professional. In fact, you are too humble. "original work" is not too hard actually. Good original work comes from good ideas of participant. How can a person have good ideas? How did AlphaGo learn to play go? AlphaGo initially learned from thousands of games played by professional go players before becoming a go expert. Similarly, after a person watches a lot of retro game videos on Youtube, the person will have many good original ideas for designing retro games.(This person's intuition.)

I concur johnno, you should enter, your too humble. I don't have the necessary skills yet, but I think you would do well, your more original than you think.....and it's only time.

In fact, Johnno can start designing and making a creative entry for this competition first. If Johnno thinks that this entry cannot be completed by the deadline as the deadline approaches , Johnno can simply give up. Many people abandoned their projects in previous competitions. Actually, tbird, you can do the same thing.

Ah, kennn... I am old enough to recognise a 'third-person' reverse psychology ploy with my eyes closed... "If Johnno" and "cannot" and "give up" and "abandoned"... You will have to try harder than that, my friend... lol Oh, and adding 'tbird' for extra pressure, was a brilliant stroke. Well played... lol
But, when all is said and done, you may be right about the allotted time limit. I usually 'tinker' programs together in, let's just say, a more leisurely pace than most are willing to wait for... lol
I have already started on a draft of a game I created using Scratch. I am still learning RCBasic so conversion is going to take time. Scratch, which is simple to use, seems to utilise 'events' in the background and a bunch of 'commands' that may or may not convert... I am just using "block" shapes for the sprites until I can get it working properly... No point creating the graphics if the game 'curls up its toes'... lol
Now, where did I put my crayons?

No, thanks. As I stated before, if I have no interest, then no drive, then no point. I do plan on doing a game jam, but the interest has to be there for me.
Thanks anyways.
I'm rooting for johnno!!

We want to see you bringing home the trophy........

This "Scratch" game is one that I created. I think the spirit of the rules would imply to not 'remake' someone else's game. I hardly think this apply's to my own game... lol Besides, the conversion is taking far too long, for my liking...
"We want to see you bringing home the trophy........" and "I'm rooting for johnno!!" - No pressure, right!
Question for admin: Can RCBasic produce an executable? (remember I am using version 307 Linux)
