This is a demo of the game I have been working on. It only has the first level and the first boss fight. You can change the controls from options and you can even set gamepad controls. Here are the default controls: Z - Jump X - Attack C - Change weapons (You have a sword and a rifle) You can do a down slash with the sword by pressing down and attack while in the air. Note: This is only a demo. It is missing music and a few sound effects. Any feedback is appreciated. Alot harder then first time, the jumping section with the sinking balls, was very hard lol. I never made it to the boss, I never got out of the forest. I will give it another go when I am more awake and not time pressed.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure if I made the first level too difficult or not because I have been playing it over and over so much that I can get through it without loosing a single life. I also added some extra features since the last demo to make it easier like temporary invincibility after getting hit and slightly slower enemy AI.
One other thing I added but I might just remove is the flicker effect when you hit an enemy. I was going for a similiar effect to how enemies looked when you hit them on NES but it just doesn't look right.
I am mostly done with the entire game at this point but some of the other levels need some polish before I upload the complete game.

The difficulty is probably OK, I think the keys are wrong, maybe it would help to define the keys or different to choose from. The jump looks artificial, you could, for example, use a quadratic function to make the flight parabola a parabola ...

I have always wondered how to do those kind of jumps. If you have a 'snippet' perhaps dropping a copy into "Tips and Tricks"?

I have been making a few tweaks to the Jump. I want to keep some of the floatiness of the jump because all my levels and the boss fights were designed around how Graizor moves. But if I can manage to make it feel more natural I think it would improve the experience. I am definitely going to rewrite my entire physics system after I am done with this game.
As far as the keys, I mentioned above that you can change the controls in the options menu.

All I did in my platformer demo was add a force up then introduce a force acting down constantly (gravity) I thought it worked pretty well, once I got the hang of the jumping in Graizor, much easier to control.

Gravity is natural, but I guess a little more counting.
As I said - there are many ways.
