Hi, SdlBasic and NaaLaa were often mentioned in this forum and both tools look similar softwares. I wanted to know their popularities and wanted to play games made with them. Itch.io is a very famous site with a lot of games made by indie game developers. I tried to search but I could not find any game made with NaaLaa. Nevertheless, I could found three games made with SdlBasic! I downloaded and played them. I could at least realize the capability of SdlBasic. The games are okay. The user bases of these two languages may not be too large anyway. notimetoplay.itch.io/escape-from-cnossus-hdnotimetoplay.itch.io/space-cruiser-orionnotimetoplay.itch.io/cybersphere

Hi Kennn, Here is homepage for Naalaa - www.naalaa.com/Naalaa has an advantage over RC and SDL in the fact that Naalaa has a 'Raycaster' and 'Tilemap Editor' that are designed to integrate with the main program. Check out the forum and ask around if you have any questions. RCBasic is very similar to SDLBasic (where I call home) but SDL is not as regularly developed as RC. Apart from the programs you will find in the forum, you would have search for quite a while, to find anything of note. If you ask n00b nicely he just might tell you how similar they are and where they differ... While n00b is developing RC for different platforms, SDL is basically confined to Windows and Linux. That's not a complaint... It's just the developer(s) are no longer involved and only minor 'fixes' are being dealt with by our Administrator. I hope that this helps... J

johnno56 I think you covered everything kennn There are actually a few other complete SDLBasic games as well as some demos that are included with the source. Hopefully in the future they will be included in the download.

I hope that RCBasic and SdlBasic will have such tools. Nowadays, ordinary programming language users expect continuous development for compilers, interpreters, IDEs, etc. I really want to encourage the SdlBasic development team to continue to improve SdlBasic.

Yes, the development team should make a "Games and Demos" section in the official website: www.sdlbasic.altervista.org/main/

Kennn,
There are very few of us (active) at SDLBasic. The development "team" no longer exists. At the present, our Administrator, is working on upgrading sdl 1.2 to sdl 2.0 but even he has his limits. The current SDLBasic in the Linux Mint repository is the 64 bit 2007 version. I seriously doubt that Mint will upgrade it to the latest version as there are so few that use it.
Thankfully, RCBasic is still being developed and both RC and SDL are so similar, staying here on this site will be like having never left home...

Perhaps... But, in the case of Basic programming, I would say it's probably a combination of lack of interest and relevance. Today's programmers are usually looking for Engines that will produce results quickly. Basic requires a lot of time and could not possibly compete with the expectations of the current generation. Basic, in it's day, was limited to available memory and disc space. Most Basic's were designed to be small enough as to not take up much space or CPU power but powerful enough to 'get the job done'. Now days, running the same Basic on modern machines means that the Basic 'can' have more features etc... But it is too little too late... The majority of programmers are now using more modern languages, creating bigger and better games, while those of us who are still using Basic can enjoy the peace and quiet of less pressure as we tinker to our heart's content...
Obviously I am low on caffeine... again...
