I thought I would be clever and upgrade my Python 3.5 to Python 3.8 !
It looks like my version of Linux Mint 18.3 grew an intense dislike to "3.8", to such an extent that, parts of my OS decided to "go off with the fairies" and leave the rest of the system to fend for itself as it began its slow descent into the voids of cyberspace....
Backup was out of the question... Python driven... Image or clone backup was a "no brainer"... Make an exact copy of the system only to restore it how it is now... lol
Thankfully, the command line was still functional, then the 3.5 hours of manually backing up my "Home" directory began... It's well after midnight; low on caffeine; low on sleep; low on luck...
I could be off the air for a day or so whilst I re-install my OS and recover my home folder and install essential programs... There are days that I wish that I could have just stayed in bed...

One advantage with Linux is: The "Home" directory can be backed up / copied and can be used to "over write" a new installation's "home" directory... But, just like Windows, any programs that were installed since the system was created, would need re-installing.
My system is back up (reason why I can reply to your comment... lol) but still needs "fine tuning"... Of course, RC was one of the first programs to be installed but because I copied my "home" directory, all of my RC programs are as I left them... cool...
I'm attempting a "mario type" game and I have lost almost a complete day... I still have a LOT of research to do to make 'mario' jump / fall and detect solid objects... Oh my aching fingers... But, first things first, COFFEE... I'm going out for coffee.... I'm sure that after losing a day, an extra hour, might not make that much of a difference... lol
