I have converted a Naalaa version of Pong by Marcus Johansson. Many thanks to Noob for the mouse help. Game is simple. Use your mouse to control the vertical movement of your 'bat'. Press the left mouse button to serve. The game is deceptively slow at first. First to 5 points. (my patience has limits... lol) The opponent's 'bat' is set to follow the 'ball' but CAN be beaten. If I have not done this right please correct it and let me know? J ps: Sound files are 'wav' format. I can change them if needs be. pong.zip (312.47 KB)

Hey johnno, I played the pong game and tried out the walking demo and they are both awesome. That pong game in particular is the first full fledge game made in RCBasic and it really is cool to see its capabilities at work. I am actually working on a game right now myself but I really don't have a whole lot to show for it just yet. Maybe in another week or so. The walking animation was really just incredible. It has given me that extra motivation to get this next minor update finished ASAP. Definitely keep it up. Also I am working on another tutorial which will go up tonight or tommorow. I am going to do two more Intro to programming tutorials and then I will start doing some intermediate and advanced tutorials.
PS: I lost horribly to the computer in pong. I never was good at pong though.

Don't sweat losing to a machine. I'm finally getting used to it... lol I think the size of the screen could be a contributing factor. Difficult to keep the mouse 'in play' at times. SmallBASIC has a cool feature to magnify the display... The game definitely looked bigger with SB... *sigh*
I cannot take credit for the Pong game. But the conversion is my fault... lol
The walking demo is all mine. Found the original image and attacked it with The Gimp to create 'the Strip'. The DrawImage_Blit() is very similar to the sdlbasic blt() command. Conversion to rcbasic was a snap...
I'm not very good at programming. Well, generating new ideas, and stuff like that. I do have creative moments but I prefer to tinker and modify. Most of the stuff I like to play is 'old hat' and has been 'done to death' by people way better than I. I can remember when the original Pong was released. Dang. Now I feel old... lol
I am going to work on a Text Adventure. I know, too 'old hat', but I like them. I have been working on a Adventure Creator for a long time. Based on the old Amstrad Adventure Creator. It's a brain drain because it's spaghetti basic with line numbers... grrr...
I'm rambling. Apologies. My system is lacking caffeine.

I am looking forward to checking out your text adventure. I still play alot of old school games myself. Also, I know I just released v2.0.6 but I am uploading a new version hopefully tonight to fix a bug I found. The bug cuts off the first character in strings in programs that get around 1200 lines or so. Here is the new rbc. Just replace rbc in the rcbasic folder with this and you should be good to go. fixed_rbc.tar.gz (168.84 KB)

Done. Thanks for the update.
As to the adventure: You may not want to be holding your breath waiting as it's taken ages so far...
As to the Creator: The creator part is basically (no pun intended) completed. Pure text. No gui. No frills. Sdlbasic version at the moment. The player section is another story. I hate trying to unravel spaghetti ... I may have to redesign that part... Ouch. More brain strain. My previous caffeine intake is fading fast...
Which part of the world do you home? (details not required - country and city are fine...) - finding a mutual window in which to converse is like juggling cats. The cats don't like it, but when you drop one, you will at least be assured that it will land on its feet... lol That being said, the window is quite small - hence the attempt to modify my on-line times to suite.

Sooo... that means you would be about 15 hours behind us. Assuming you are operating on Central Time. 3pm Thursday, at the moment, in Melbourne, Australia would make it about Midnight Wednesday where you are... hmmm... You should be asleep... lol
I will bid you, goodnight.

I wasn't able to see the Top part of the frame in Windows 7 because the window opens at the top left corner of the screen. I just changed line 6 where he opens the window to this and it solved it.
WINDOWOPEN ( 0, "PONG - Marcus Johansson", WINDOWPOS_CENTERED, WINDOWPOS_CENTERED, 320, 240, 0 )
