Wow. That'a a LOT of projects... Some people have a LOT of time on their hands... Hello, my comments and analysis: 1. The current situation is very clear. Semi-coding drag-drop-click engines dominate the top ten list! Unity (Semi-coding) Construct (Non-coding) GameMaker Studio (Semi-coding) Bitsy (Semi-coding) Godot (Semi-coding) RPG Makers (Semi-coding) PICO-8 (Pure language) Unreal (Semi-coding) Ren'Py (Semi-coding) LÖVE Engine (Pure language) 2. 36694 projects were made with Unity and 8213 projects were made with Construct. Unity is extremely more popular than Construct and other engines. If someone wants to work in the game industry, learning Unity should be a must. 3. If you visit AppGameKit's forum, it is easy to notice that the forum is very active. AppGameKit is a successful BASIC language. However, only 51 projects on itch.io? I am very surprised. In fact, AppGameKit was released nearly 10 years ago! 4. 970 LÖVE projects on Itch.io. This engine is quite popular! Many indie developers like to use LÖVE Engine + LUA! It is worthwhile to look into why so many developers like to use them to develop games! Maybe RCBasic can learn from the successful experience of LÖVE Engine + LUA. (What LÖVE Engine + LUA can do in games but RCBasic can't do?) 5. The whole RCBasic community should be looking forward to the first RCBasic project appearing on Itch.io.

kenn you must know that this is just a prediction and speculation and things are not just that simple as you may think. Johnno have a right , even simple games need lot of time and knowlege to do things properly. Another thing... you or anyone else can make great game - from the technical point of view but if the scenario or story of game is poor then everything else comes in second plan.

if the scenario or story of game is poor then everything else comes in second plan. I disagree on this point somewhat. Nobody is playing super mario for its story and it is still regarded as one of the best games of all time.

From the "list" and the "numbers" confirms, to a degree, that game makers are favouring "drag and drop" and leaning more towards 3D. Should we be concerned? I don't think so... After all, it's not the engine that makes a game great, it's the coder that makes a great game.
The figures do not surprise me, after all, the current generation wants results and want them now. Those of us that value 'delayed gratification' are willing to put in 'the hard yards' to produce a better product... Eventually today's generation will determine what the "norm" will be in the future, but until then, I think it is our duty to give them another option.
To mis-quote and paraphrase Bill Shakespeare... "To code, or not to code, that is the question..."
Well... That settles it... The lack of caffeine in the system is definitely messing with my head... lol...

I am looking at Godot projects, there are some maybe 5% good games. Most of them are 64bit only which leads me to conclusions that are not created from ground than is used from other as semi-product. I still don't have time to really try Godot because i am busy with other programming things.

kenn you must know that this is just a prediction and speculation Yes.... Yeah. You mean gameplay? Some gamers may emphasize on gameplay of games. Some other gamers may emphasize on graphics of games. Different gamers have different tastes.

Nobody is playing super mario for its story and it is still regarded as one of the best games of all time. Furthermore, many games don't have stories. For example, Tetris, Breakout, pinball games, etc.

Yes, moreover, RCBasic community may make RCBasic as popular as Love engine.

Interesting... "make RCBasic as popular"... There is a 'common sense' saying, "You won't know how good a race horse is until you take it out of the stable." If we are to promote RCBasic then we have to "show" people what this "puppy" can do...
There are two main questions that need ask ourselves: 1. "How" can we promote RC? and 2. What can "I" do to help?

It is a kind of nice promotion for AppGameKit. syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,6325.msg32823.html#msg32823 (Add www.)
