Cool... Even though I run with Linux Mint, I can still run Game Maker 6, without any problems. Game maker 8 runs but can glitch at times. Game Maker Studio (1 or 2) won't even start...
I also run Enigma (https://enigma-dev.org/docs/Wiki/Main_Page) which runs pretty much all of Game Makers (6, 8, 8.1 and Studio) stuff. Runs on Windows, Linux and Mac. Best of all... It's free.
But, you're right, some of that Game Maker stuff is pretty ancient... But fun!
My analysis again,
I installed these ancient versions. They can be run on my computer.
I installed version 1.4 first. The user interface is not too nice. Moreover, there are not too many functions in the software.
(This version was released in February 2000.)
Then I installed version 2.0. There are improvements in this version but this version still doesn't look like a professional software.
(The version was released in September 2000.)
Therefore, I did not installed version 3.3. I installed version 4.3 directly. Wow!!!! Version 4.3 is very complete and professional. This version was released in November 2002. The author should be a genius because he had abillity to finish a very superior and easy 2D game development software 18 years ago!!!!!!!
Many programmers don't like this type of game making software. However, I strongly suggest them to install and look into at least version 4.3. Version 4.3 will inspire them significantly!!!
By the way, I found the following interesting information:
