well Brave...maybe is a to strong words when i using mini distro called Miyo i learned some things of course this type of install need internet connection. at first i was thinking to use debian mini-iso but is too big 472MB so ubuntu is smaller and faster option this time also i was thinking to use Openbox as lighter WM but it looks that so many things to be added later In Budgie all is there,it is bigger but more modern. If not work with Budgie i will then use openbox.

Cool wallpaper...
Brave was meant to be "braver than I"... I do not know enough about the inner workings of Linux to build a distribution... You are definitely braver than I am...

I may not be much help to you there. My only experience to avoid potential HDD problems is to format the HDD using a bootable usb version of Linux. I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

No problem Johno Last night i finally figured what is wrong. problem with BIOS setting must be - USB RMD - FDD for AMI type of bios older motherboards. Then Unebootin is the best program for creating USB bootable sticks. And yes i finally boot from usb and all steps go well to select archive mirror then troubles up...no one of mirrors not work eben i have internet connection. I will ask on our local linux problem about that...

A bios setting? Wow... If it's not a rude question, how old is the computer that you are planning on using?

How is old,i really don't know it is from one my freiend, that comp is not turned on probaby five or more years it have old ami bios and all that work,he have XP instelled before. For testing i found old original CD with Kubuntu 8.10 and install fine on that computer. Unfortunatelly net-install not work because our local wifi AP need WEB login so ubuntu installer cannot packeges from archive mirrors, so i install MiyoLinux . He not work fast on my another old comp as i expected. I will replace processor which is now old Pentium 1.6 with one 2.6 Pentium just to see diffeence heh funny things with older hardware !!

Yeah... The reason I asked how old... Old hardware can be a bit tricky at times... The rule of thumb that I use is, if it can run reasonably quick from a bootable USB, then chances are pretty good that a full install could work just as well... Most Linux kernels are pretty robust and contain a lot of drivers for all sorts of hardware... But Linux, believe it or not, has its limitations... Where do they draw the line at which old drivers to keep? I have no idea...
You did say Pentium, yes? Wow. That is old. I think the earliest Pentiums were about 1993... Could be wrong... Pentium 1.6 to 3.4 are dated around 2001 which would explain the use of Windows XP... I think perhaps trying to increase memory first may be the way to go. DDR ram came out about 2000. Not sure how much it costs to get DDR or DD2... If the memory is already maxed out then upgrading the CPU could be the way to go.
Anyway, sounds like an interesting project... Looks like you're going to be kept busy with this one... I would be interested in updates as you go. Sounds like fun.

Yeah it is , I think that this computer is probably from 2004-2007 maximum. As i say every step work dine with classic Debian-Ubuntu classic intaller i used many times but problematic part is that stupid web -login when you must from WebBrowser click on button login to get internet connection. And that is not possible from installer and not from any kind of console or terminal. For a proof of that when i install that debian(devuan) based distro on that computer .
This distro comes without broeser ,so naturally i tried with synaptic pm and when i tried to download firefox then i get error ; connection feiled and again main problem is login. of course i tried with terminal sudo apt-get and again connection not work so i must download firefox from another computer ,put it on stick and install it manually.

Yes Johnno ,i know that unforunatelly there are some crucial problems with linux which are still the same. file system is one of them , only one which is trully fast is no longer in development and is reiserFS . I tried it long time ago in Freespire linux which is there by default ,it is simply blazing fast then very bad syncronisatiion between kernel and display drivers including window managers. and the too much things are created in python which a too much slow for such a things etc..etc...

I really become pissed off with this bug in insteller then i download Bodhi 4.5 32bit version and after few seconds of booting system is up and runing in live mode from usb...goood! In a taskbar is icon - Install Bodhi -i click it and installation procedure started. Following few usual staps system start to copy files on my hard drive . It is interesting that even is in live mode ,repond really very quickly and i am really surprized with that ..nice. Also all hardver is recocnized out of box also as wifi which work in live mode too
