Just thought I would catch up with everyone. The site has been a bit quite of late and figured would be a good idea to chat about what we are doing or planning on doing with RC.
Oh alright, I'll start... lol I have found that I have plenty of time available but haven't come up with a descent project idea... I have been wading through all of my 'old' stuff in the hopes of providing inspiration When I say 'old', I mean, mid 80's to mid 90's. Ok. Maybe I should have said 'ancient'... Well, after all the searching, I came up with two things... 1. No inspiration and 2. Being reminded of the fact that I still hate line numbers and goto's... I think I need to clean out my archives... lol
Ok. This is the part where you guys respond.... lol

Why Itch users are more interested in RCBasic? However, when we compare the official forums of these two languages, Cerberus-X has much much more members. Why? ?? itch.io/profile/n00bcodeitch.io/profile/whiteskygames

My guess would be that, before Cerberus-X there was Monkey and before Monkey was Blitz... Each upgrade of Blitz would have brought followers with it. Like a snowball rolling down a hill...
Let me see... Before RCBasic was?....
That's just my opinion... But ultimately, as I have mentioned before, interest in 'any' Basic engine will decline as it cannot hope to compete with the latest engines. Nostalgia, hobby and old guys like me with ensure that Basic will not completely fade away... lol
In 1972, Pong was officially release, and began to export internationally by 1973. Atari acquired pong and re-released it in 1976 and it flooded the world. Why because it was different. The first commercial video game. That lead to the not so popular Pong 2... But, the snowball had begun to roll... Pong lead to bigger and better games; 3D vector games; Sprites and colour; Mario (one of the most popular games ever made); Then 16bit.... and on and on...
Pong and Breakout are now primarily suggested to newbies to learn the basics of game development. Pong has had its "15 minutes of fame" and is now a 'training tool' for developers or a 'nostalgia trip' for the older generation. Such is the fate of Basic (or any other language really) because, one day the snowball will stop rolling, it will begin to melt and eventually be gone...
So, what do we do in the meantime? Make another snowball. Give it a push. Let people know about it. Hopefully the snowball will get bigger...
I haven't had my morning coffee yet... so I apologize if a seem to be babbling...
My suggestion: Don't worry about which language has the largest forum etc, but concentrate on how we can contribute to making RC better. Sure, we shouldn't ignore other forums completely, but not at the expense of losing focus on our goals... Well, that's just 'my' opinion, for what its worth...
Time for coffee...

tbird,The roguelike game jam has started, the theme is "Death is just the beginning!" So I almost have a plan for what I am doing will start a project kn the forum tomorrow when I get a chance to start on it. May there be a thread for discussion of the entry in the Projects sub-forum? Like this one: rcbasic.freeforums.net/thread/363/game-suggestionsjohnno56 may provide very good opinions about the entry to you! One-month period is plenty of time. I believe that many contestants will be able to submit finished entries with high qualities. johnno56, My guess would be that, before Cerberus-X there was Monkey and before Monkey was Blitz... Each upgrade of Blitz would have brought followers with it. Like a snowball rolling down a hill... So, what do we do in the meantime? Make another snowball. Give it a push. Let people know about it. Hopefully the snowball will get bigger... I undertand the above points! Thank you!!!!!!!!
