The forum will once again break the record in 2020. I mean that the total number of post will be at a record low level in 2020. Under 110 posts per year is a terrible figure for a programming forum. The forum was a popular forum once(over 20000 posts in 2007). Will the forum be closed down in the near future? www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php?action=stats

YaBasic is one of the "Basic's" that are in Linux Mint's repository (collection of software). I cannot speak for Windows, but the Linux version does not use a GUI. I managed to configure Geany to enter the coding and to run it. Obviously Geany is opened. Yabasic then opens a command box (displaying messages) and a window for the application. The documentation (Linux version) is not downloadable and the links within the documentation do not work. Resorted to scrolling... The sample program, on the yabasic website, was quite easy to follow and ran without error. I have not spent any time going through the list of commands, but if they are anything like the sample, they should be relatively ease to follow. Yabasic can run from the command line eg: yabasic filename.yab. The file can be created with a simple text editor. The yabsic website has a link to a site that shows how to make a GUI. Yabasic might be interesting to check out. Yabasic is still being developed. The latest version (2.87.1) was released on Nov 7 this year. Support seems to be limited to emailing the author or an online FAQ. The yabasic site does not indicate any kind of forum. I will give yabasic a try, but without a community, I'm going to probably give it a miss...

The official website does not show us any finished program written in YaBasic and therefore we don't know whether YaBasic is useful. By the way, I made this animated gif. If you think that the animated gif is ok, you can use it as your logo in the forum. aurel, long time ago there was original YaBasic created by one guy from Germany and that is one which work fine but is a really a toy programming lang good for demos etc ... The latest version(2.87.1) was released last month and the version may surprise everyone. Will you try the version?

Ken,
Yabasic only has a few examples within its own folders. I couldn't find any on the site. Aurel may be right. I think this may be the result of one persons work. That, in itself is not an issue, its the absence of community and support that does not encourage the use of yabasic. I will try and find some time today (Tuesday) to see if I can convert YB's examples and compare performance... Fingers crossed.

johnno56, Solo developer is not a big problem.
May the absence of a community imply a lot of bugs in a software?
Your report will tell us the quality of YaBasic.
aurel, Sorry, no.

A solo developer is not an issue... Being the 'only' source for help and support is...
Initial report. As I stated earlier yabasic seems quite easy to use and or convert. The online documentation, in regards to accessing yabasic's commands, is totally useless. The online documentation's "links" do not work. Cannot access command dictionary or anything else...
I cannot add a system of "timing" to check for speed etc. because I do not know the correct commands.
A simple GUI would be nice (Linux). The one advantage to executing from the command line is that, if there are any errors that occur, they can be seen. Most "Basics" have GUI's. Setting up an Editor can be a challenge. But that is 'cosmetics'. Yabasic apparently has a collection of command line parameters. That's if you like using the command line... lol
If you are thinking of using yabasic - to tinker - you could do worse... But without proper documentation, support and or community, 'tinker' would be you best choice.
My recommendation: If RC is what you know best then stick with RC...

johnno56, If a YaBasic sub-forum is set up on our forum, people can discuss here. Another positive effect is that our forum will be more popular. Thanks for reporting. Perhaps the author of YaBasic is not hardworking enough in writing YaBasic's document. If we inform YaBasic's author to read our discussion here, the author may improve the documentation. The author may also join this discussion.
