Valid points all... Our interests, likes and dis-likes, will continue as long as life exists... Who knows what the future will bring? New or old devices and operating systems will be of interest for many people for time to come... Unless... someone brings up the subject of 8bit systems... Cool...

And, of course, there are Snaps, Flatpacks and Appimages that allow developpers to distribute software easilly. It's up to developpers to use them (or just put everything in an archive like Mozilla does). Imagine that someone provided the executable, but failed to include required .dll files. Would anyone blame Microsoft? No. The same happens on Linux, system is to blame.

Aurel, Kurumin is not based on Debian? Well, KNOPPIX IS BASED ON DEBIAN. Another "expert" who couldn't be bothered to check basic facts...

Please, someone tell me that I'm dreaming. I just checked Kurumin on Distrowatch. The last version was released in...prepare yourself...2008. Yes. THIRTEEN years ago. It comes with Firefox 3rc, GCC 4, Glibc 2.7 and kernel 2.6.
Johnno, could you please disable guest posting, so I won't be tempted to answer to topics like this anymore? You said something about a reputation of this forum. Topics like this destroy it completely! I should have checked Kurumin earlier, but who would imagine that someone believes thirteen old distro is an option for today? My apologies. I should have simply ignored this INSANE topic.

Tomaaz, Disabling "guest posting" is like cancelling "try before you buy".... We do not want to prevent people from checking us out, right? and besides... I would have to research "How to"... lol My suggestion... Resist temptation...

Aurel, feel free to use thirteen years old distros, ten years old smartphones and forty years old TV sets. I'm sure it will be pure joy and you will have a lot of fun. Also, feel free to continue not understanding not only what other people say, but also your own linguistic constructs. Enjoy!

Oh, Aurel started talking in a human voice ... The only significant difference between the old systems and the new is that the new ones eat up more resources. The same is also true in other areas. I'd like to continue working in Windows 98 or GEM.
Well but still ... If Kurumin is Knopix based and Knoppix is Debian based then Kurumin is Debian based.

Yep. Take boot time, for example. No modern hardware can compete with the old good C64. It's a shame that Mozilla doesn't provide Firefox for that platform. Imagine the speed you could browse the internet with it. It's true that modern software is more bloated and less optimized than older programs. And this is where Linux really shines. You can have stripped down and fully optimized distro that will run fast on very low spec hardware. Not possible with Windows, but what do I know? I'm "a liar" and "a copy paste programmer" after all.

BTW Rosy, what do you mean by "Aurel started talking in a human voice ..."? Is Aurel an alien, AI or an animal? WTF? Oh, I know! Aurel is a robot! That's why he moans about "I'm not a robot" captcha. Aurel, congrats! Starting to talk in a human voice sounds like a giant step and fantastic achievement (if you need details, don't ask me - speak to rosy, instead). I loved Win 98. (Re)installing was always a fantastic experience. A task for a whole day. Installing modern Linux distros is not the same. Three clicks and a 15 min. wait.

I am not sure if I made myself quite clear: "civil: courteous and polite." There is nothing wrong with a bit of friendly banter, but when it goes on and on, the tone of the joking can change. Especially for the 'target' of the joking.
Please keep the discussion 'on topic'.
Tomaaz: I still have my original Win98SE CD and manual... Dusted it off and took it for a run a couple of days ago using Virtualbox. Installation was quicker than I remembered. But it did bring back memories... Cool...

Aurel, you invent artificial problems. EVERYONE (billions of people) know that every linux is 2x faster than all windows in 3 clicks. I do not know how people worked 20 years ago under Windows on such equipment, I think we dreamed it all. Even today, the installation itself takes a whole day. It's good that we've been enlightened.
Another Deja-vu ... I hear, for example, enthusiasm over modern disc brakes in bicycles. I take one bike - it does not brake, I take the other - it does not brake. Now I take bikes with old V-brakes, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ... They all brake and that's pretty good! I hear that the v-brakes stop working even after driving into a puddle ... I spray the brake with OIL and it still works! But I must be dreaming it because the EXPERTS say the v-brake is bad, SHIELDS ONLY!

20+ years ago people were enjoying "fast" dial-up internet conections and, since Win 98 didn't support administrator accounts, huge phone bills thanx to all the dialers that could have been installed without any security warnings and passwords (yeah, I know - it had never happened to you). Today, for BILLIONS of users, Windows installation takes zero minutes, because... majority of laptops and desktops come with Windows pre-installed. The rest of your post looks to me like an example of something you definitely use to often - anecdotal evidence. In other words, it doesn't proof absolutely anything general.

I have just discovered that all the wav files in the directory are gone. Interesting that the BAS remains ... Again I suspect Linux robots. That's not the first time...
