As much as I enjoy converting other "Basic's" graphics demos etc., I think that perhaps we could try and focus on projects that can be, shall we say, 'more practical'.
Whether it is relation to a game creator, utility or any other useful application, it would be good to show, and perhaps place on the rcbasic.com website, what it is that RCBasic can do. In the eyes of most people, Basics such as RCBasic, SDLBasic and the like, are best suited to making 2D games etc...
All this might sound like "pie in the sky", but unless we dream to improve and act upon it, then perhaps we should make ourselves comfortable with 2D games and graphics demos... I am not trying to make you feel guilty, but perhaps to cause us to think about the future of Basic, RCBasic in particular. In the meantime the challenge is to think about what each one of us can do to help promote RCbasic.
The first thing we need to consider is: Does all this sound like a good idea? If not, it was worth a shot... If so, do we have the collective skill set to proceed?
I am open to any suggestions, opinions and possibilities... eg: Individual or group projects etc...

Demos are ok, tricks with demos are used in games.

Aurel. Of course your opinion is important, even if your interests are in other dialects, that does not mean that you cannot contribute in some way to RC...

I have an interesting project...well at least to me. I haven't bothered posting about my game or engine updates as they are so few and far between. 🤔 Although I have part of my demo done and it's nearing the point of sharing, and hopefully soon after, playing.

My old sprite editor could easily fall under the "left on the shelf" syndrome... It has been quite a long time since I tackled that one. Only the basic functions added. Lack of skill kind of put the brakes on that project... lol

My apologies... It has been about 3 weeks since my last posting... I know I have attempted to encourage the production of 'practical' projects, but my lack of ideas, has not been a very good example... I am still of the belief that 'Basic' can and should be used for 'non-gaming' projects, for sure it will take a lot more work, and a lot more creative thinking...
Perhaps a different 'twist'?
If most people think that Basic is only good for 2D games then meet them 'half way'... Instead of making games... What about tutorials on making games? After all... Basic was designed for 'Beginners'... 'Beginners', by definition, must 'start' from somewhere... What is the old saying?, "You give a poor man a fish and you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish and you give him an occupation that will feed him for a lifetime.” (Chinese proverb.)
Open to suggestions...

johnno56 There is actually a few non gaming programs written in RCBasic that I find pretty useful. I have mentioned it before, but all the tools use to package rcbasic programs are written in rcbasic. There was also that sprite editor you made a while back. I have also written some scripts in rcbasic that I use for some automation on my computer. So yes, you can use BASIC for non-gaming projects. Maybe working on something like a calculator would be a good project.

Oh, I remember trying to do a calculator 'eons' ago.. Pure text, mind you, but only had the most basic (no pun intended) functions. Back then I did not have much of a handle on graphics... Interesting... At one time I had imagined creating my own 'Star Trek' themed personal webpage that would have a calculator... An RC application... Generating the graphics for it will require some effort... mouse 'zones' can be done (or touch for Android - not sure how...) minor sound effects... I cannot create GUI's but a simple layout of either sprites or primitives should be relatively easy enough... All that is required is... a goal... Time to set one... Thank you for the suggestion.

It seems that you do not need to do touch for Android, it is enough to support the mouse and the touch should also work.
I have a graphics program written in GFA Basic, it can be combined with the sprite editor (although it actually has something like that). I can share if someone wants to have fun ...

Isn't Basic all about fun? If you are willing to share, then by all means, please do...

Why just for fun? The "project" was meant to be practical, not funny ...: P

True... But who said that we cannot have fun making the project? lol
