Oh no. Not another version?! Um... Yep... Made this little game back in 2016 using sdlbasic. Just finished a QB64 version today and figured, 'Let's no leave out RCBasic..." Do not let the 'slow' start fool you. Left mouse button or Space Bar to fly... You know the drill... Don't die! Of course, any helpful suggestions, are always welcome. rcflappy.zip (52.57 KB)

This is a pretty good version of flappy bird. I really liked the day to night transitions.

Thank you. I deliberately shortened the transition from passing "20" to "5" pipes. It kind of got "boring"... lol Bplus was instrumental is shortening the sdlbasic version. I modified this version to utilize one continuous "loop" and structured it like Lua does. Initialize; update and draw. It works, but could use a bit of "tidying up"... Using this method made the RC version run faster than the QB64 version. Original "speed" was set to "5"...

Rosy. They probably said the same thing about Pong... lol Two paddles and a ball. It was a hit because it was 'new'.
Oh you are 'both' so lucky.... The game was originally setup to change speed after passing "20" pipes!
Go down to the 'scoring section' and change the 'mod 5' to something smaller... maybe 'mod 3' or 'mod 2'... That should speed things up a little... Moo ha ha
Boring or not. It was an exercise for myself to see if I could convert my game to multiple 'basics'... Couple of hours of coding fun!
Aurel. Back in the mid-80's I had an Amstrad CPC464... One of the games was a Decathelon. Running required a joystick. The faster you move the joystick, from side to side, the faster the athlete would run. I wore out two joysticks. I then cannibalised a joystick, replaced the membrane contacts with micro-switches, voila! With the switches aligned "just so", very little 'side to side' action was required. The athlete ran faster; no more sore wrists; no more broken joysticks! Now... How about that mouse of yours... lol

1. Pong was the only game back then 2. The Pong was a competition

1. So true... That made it unique... Most found it fascinating... But it's fame was short lived... Breakout and Space Invaders would continue on for a long time... then came colour... and the rest is history... Fun days indeed...
2. A competition? I never knew that... Do you know any details? Curious to know.
When Pong was released in 1972, I had started my second year of my apprenticeship... It would be another 7 years before I built my first computer kit... I was still living with mum and dad at the time. At that time I was dating the local Pub owners daughter. In 1973 the Pub installed a 'table-top' Pong game. Each player had a button (serve the ball) and knob to turn to move the paddle up and down. It certainly attracted a lot of curious on-lookers.... Each game would cost 20 cents (1 or two players)

2. It was about the rivalry of 2 players
Hockey was also on the same principle, and this is still a great game to this day.

1. Function random(minimum, maximum) ' This returns a random number between minimum and maximum-1 2. On your computers the version of SDLBasic was slower?

1. Yep. 2. After converting to rcbasic, the 'default' speed of '5', was too fast. So I changed the default speed to '3'. As to why RC run's faster, I have no idea, it just did...
